WHEN YOUR AC BREAKS

Steps To Take When Your AC Stops Cooling

What you do when your AC goes out depends on your comfort level in dealing with costly electrical equipment. You should never feel like you have to do it yourself with AC repair.

At Wright's Heating and AC our air conditioning repair technicians are ready to come out, inspect your unit, and give you an estimate of what it will take to fix it. We won’t start the work until you give us the go-ahead. However, if you want to check a few things before you call, that’s fine too.

Please review some of the most common issues we see:
Cleaning the Filters

Check Your Thermostat

Sometimes little hands, or not so little hands, make changes to settings. These changes can cause your home to heat up. Make sure your program settings are correct, that it’s set to cool and not to heat, and it’s on AUTO. Also check the thermostat battery.

Check Your Filter

An exceptionally clogged filter can impact the way your system runs, slowing it down, and making the airflow feel weaker. If your filter looks dirty, change it out, and see if that improves the airflow. If not, the clogged filter may have caused a build-up of dirt in your ducts that will need to be professionally cleaned.

Check Your Duct Connections

If you have access to your ducts, make sure the seals look good and no insulation has fallen away. For homes with ductwork under the house, creatures often use these as materials for nesting. It’s not uncommon to see holes and disconnected areas.

Report on What You See, Feel, and Hear

If you’re experiencing a lack of performance with your AC, make a note of what you’re seeing and hearing by the unit. Is it turning on and immediately shutting off? Blowing hot air inside the home? Making a strange noise? Completely dead? These observations can help the technician think about possible causes so they will know what to check first upon arrival.

Check Your Circuit Breaker

It’s not uncommon for a circuit breaker to be tripped. If it appears nothing is happening with your unit, check to make sure the circuit wasn’t tripped and isn’t in the off position. If it is, flip it back on, and see if your unit starts back up.

Turn Off Your Unit

Finally, if nothing else works, turn off your unit and Contact Wright's AC and Heat. We’ll get a technician out to you as soon as possible. We know how brutal it can be in Texas without AC service. That’s why our AC repair services are always only a phone call away.
